CranioSacral Therapy is a specialized form of body work that involves light holds and touches of the skull and sacrum with "barely detectible" pressure. In it's truest form, CST is administered with the intent of promoting optimal circulation of cerebrospinal fluid, (the fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord). At OptimaLiving, we use a blended myofascial approach to CranioSacral Therapy that includes gentle sustained pulls and manipulation of soft tissue in and around the cervical spine and shoulders to release muscle tension and spasms.
During your Cranio-Sacral Therapy session, you will lie facing upwards on a massage table, fully clothed or you may opt to remove your shirt or blouse. The therapist will apply gentle pressure and massage to the muscles of the upper shoulders, lightly stretch and manipulate the bones and muscles of the cervical spine, apply light pressure to the face in and around the paranasal sinuses, and conclude with gentle pressure and holds to muscles of the skull.
A typical CranioSacral therapy session lasts 30 minutes. CST has been known to aid various health problems such as migraine headaches, sinus disorders and immune deficiencies. Minor health ailments such as chronic headaches can typically be treated with a few CST sessions. However more serious health conditions that cause severe pain or chronic disease should be conducted over a series of weekly CST sessions. CST sessions generally include the use of topical essential oils or aromatherapy depending on the symptoms being addressed.
